In April, mainframe computers celebrate their birthday. 60 years ago, IBM built the first mainframe at a cost of just over five billion US dollars. And the following generations of computers are still in use. And this is true when large amounts of data are involved and reliability is paramount: at banks or in administration.
Denmark's largest IT service provider, KMD, also uses mainframe computers for its customers, many of them come from the energy industry, utilities and the public sector. Starting in 2025, we at T-Systems will support the mainframe computers for KMD over the next seven years. We bring a lot of experience to the table: More than 2,000 colleagues have been working in the mainframe business for years. By the way: Our own mainframe computers handle more than 300,000 million computing operations per second, or MIPS for short. Cool, right? 😊
And we are already working on the future: Partnerships with the hyperscalers AWS, Azure and Google Cloud are the basis for integrating mainframe into our overall portfolio for cloud and into all processes associated with it.
